Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
